STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Physiotherapy Department endeavours to provide high quality services to referred inpatients and outpatients to optimize their return to their professional and family life as soon as possible.


FUNCTIONS

1. To provide assessment and treatment for conditions in orthopedics, neurology, cardiorespiratory, amputations, burns, arthritis and post-partum.

2. To provide personalized treatments which may include: patient/client education, posture correction, electrotherapeutic modalities, manual therapy techniques, acupuncture, physical agents, hydrotherapy, mechanical modalities, walking aids, therapeutic exercises and work hardening. Patient/client ages vary from newborn to the elderly.

3. To function as part of the multidisciplinary health care team and provide a holistic approach to patient/client care.

4. To promote preventive health care to patients/clients and health care providers.

5. To provide ergonomic assessments and education to hospital employees with computer workstations.

6. To provide a clean and safe environment for our patients/clients.

7. To provide a gym facility to hospital employees, for their personal fitness use in the evenings and weekends.


PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES

SERVICES PROVIDED

The department includes four treatment rooms, one private evaluation and treatment room, a gymnasium, a hydrotherapy room with private shower, and a variety of treatment modalities. Service is provided by two registered Physiotherapists and one Physiotherapy Assistant. The department is open 08:00 to 12:00 Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 13:00 to 16:00 on Friday. Inpatients are seen between 10:30 and 12:00. Outpatients services require an appointment.

HOURS OF OPERATION: 08:00 to 16:00

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Occupational Therapy Department strives to provide high quality services for referred inpatients and outpatients to maintain or achieve the optimum level of functional independence in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

FUNCTIONS


1. To provide daily living skills assessment and treatment in areas of self-care, work and leisure.

2. To provide perceptual-cognitive assessment and treatment.

3. To provide post neurological event assessment and treatment (i.e. CVA, head injury).

4. To provide multi-sensory stimulation for long stay patients/clients.

5. To provide assessment and authorization of mobility devices such as wheelchair, walker, (Assistive Devices Program, government assistance with funding).

6. To fabricate hand and wrist splints and provide hand therapy post surgery or for conditions such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel and arthritis.

7. To provide education in joint protection and energy conservation (i.e. arthritic conditions, COPD, heart condition).

8. To provide home modification recommendations.

9. To function as part of multidisciplinary health care team and provide a holistic approach to patient/client care.

10. To promote preventive health care to patients/clients and health care providers.

11. To provide ergonomic assessments and education to hospital employees with computer workstations.

Please note that a doctor's referral is required to be seen by the Occupational Therapist as an out-patient.
